Ghana Medical Cooperation Project

A newly launched partner project between the Klinikum rechts der Isar (MRI TUM) and the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) aims to enable KATH doctors and surgical nurses to use minimally invasive surgery (MIS) methods for the treatment of gynecological diseases. Since 2018, the Klinikum rechts der Isar and KATH, which is affiliated with TUM’s strategic partner university KNUST in Kumasi, have been collaborating within the framework of a Clinic Partnership. In October 2022, Ghanaian doctors and surgical nurses will visit the MRI TUM for hands-on training on the application of MIS techniques. In addition to this training, minimally invasive treatment methods performed at KATH will be telemedically supervised by physicians at the Klinikum rechts der Isar for the duration of the one-year project. Furthermore, standard operating procedures will be jointly developed for the indication, performance, and perioperative management of MIS patients at KATH. The project is funded by BMZ and GIZ as part of the Clinic Partnership.
